Project Nursery Part II

My brain has been spinning on nursery designs ever since I found out I was pregnant.  I was just waiting for the final word confirming if we were having a boy or a girl to get started.  We found out 2 weeks ago we will be having baby Avery and I went straight to work!
There have been so many beautiful, inspring nurseries I have seen and I shared a few of them a couple of weeks ago here. I decided I wanted to go with a vintage, french country, shabby chic nursery.  I had to incorporate my favorite colors (pink and brown), my favorite things (chandeliers, damask and crowns) and my favorite furniture (vintage painted and distressed).
As you all know I am all about the look for less so here
we go....

I have been loving white sleigh cribs with french country details, but I couldn't get over the prices!!
Here are the inspiration cribs...
Alexis Crib by Newport Cottage $1240

French Panel Crib by Art for Kids $2760

Designer Cottage Baby Crib $2160

Bon Nuit Cherubini Crib $2760
Young America Isabella Mix & Match Crib $929

...so I took these cribs for inspiration and got the look for a fraction of the price!!

I bought this crib from Amazon.com

Disney Princess 3-1 Crib for $399.99

Then I bought this adorable Shabby Furniture Applique for $22.95 on EBAY!!
just a little wood glue and my crib went from this

to this
The look was almost complete, but I still needed to add the vintage touch.  Here is the final product...
French Country, Shabby Chic Crib....by House of Hargrove $445.89!!

I love love love vintage buffets and wanted to use one for the changing table.  I found this amazing one on Craigslist.  I got a steal of a price and went to work.
Here is the BEFORE...
 and the AFTER...

So with the crib and the changing table complete it was time to work on the bedding.  These were the swatches I was loving!

Before I started House of Hargrove, I was an Assistant Buyer for JCPenney in the baby department.  I got to buy and design baby bedding...such a fun job!  I fell in love this incredible set by New Arrivals

but came to find out the fabric had been discontinued!!  This was terrible news.  This had been "the set" I had to have if I ever had a little girl.  Luckily, I stayed in touch with my old contacts from the JCP days and Tori Swaim (owner of New Arrivals) came to the rescue when she had just a few yards of the fabric left and made me a custom set!!
THANK YOU TORI!!
Here it is...

I still have plenty more to do.  I'm working on a shabby chest, a chippy shelf and more decor.  I will post the final product when everything is finished.
Here are some more details that are complete...
Got this beautiful chandelier from Overstock for $206.99

I love the upholstered gliders at Restoration Hardware, but again...didn't want to pay their prices.  Here is their beautiful "inspiration" chair for $1649

Here is my version that I found on Craigslist.  It was a
terrible teal color, but nothing a great re-upholstery job couldnt fix.

I made the wall art with icons and prints I love....crowns, chandeliers and damask.

Love this amazing vintage mirror with lots of beautiful chippy paint. This was a gift from Avery's aunt...my "sister-cousin" Susan.

I love this sign.  Its the first thing I bought when I found out I was pregnant.

Like I mentioned, I still have a lot more to do, but I wanted to share my progress so far.
Stay tuned...off to design!

  3. Thank you!! I got it at Home and Garden Consignment in downtown Mckinney. That is where I have my Mckinney booth and there is a lady in here that sells them. Her business is called Cindy Janes Attic. She has lots of cute signs.

Restoration Hardware is undoubtebly my favorite upscale store for home furnishings.

  9. Hi Elaine,

I am obsessed with what you did! I cannot find the crib you purchased any where on the internet. Do you know if they still sell this crib and where I could find it?

    Thank You!
