My House of Hargrove-Master Bedroom

Welcome to our home....today I am going to take you on a tour of my Master Bedroom.
Here is our floor plan and the pink area is our bedroom.

Here is a view into our room from the hallway.
For more details on the art prints above our bed click HERE.

I still need to add a mirror behind Geoff's nightstand.  The one on my nightstand I have had FOREVER and they don't make it anymore so I am trying to find a matching one.

I need a mirror here badly!!

This is not the best picture, but here is one side of our room.  Yes, we have a pack-n-play in our room.  One day when babies have grown I will be adding a sitting area over here.

View of bedroom from Master Bathroom.

Last week we toured our Master Bath....you can see that tour HERE.

I LOVE this piece of furniture.  I have nothing in it right now, but I just love it.

Hard to tell from this picture, but this mirror has crowns all around it.  It is HUGE and perfect!

Here is a stock photo of the mirror so you can see the crowns better

When we moved into this house all of our ceilings were much taller so everything I had before looked miniature.  I needed a new mirror.  Here you can see the before & after with the new mirror....much better!

If you have any questions....let me know in the comments below and I will do my best to answer them.  Thanks for stopping by!

Cupcakes & Crowns-Avery's Big Girl Room Art

I finished Avery's fireplace tufted headboard and now it was time to work on the art for behind her nightstands.  I wanted to flank each side of the bed with 2 framed art prints.  Here is what the room looked like before...

I didn't want the pink door there because it was too much chippy next to the new headboard.  I like to mix shabby and elegant.  I am so picky when it comes to art so after a lot of looking I decided to create my own art prints for Avery's big girl room.

I went to Michaels today and they are having a buy one get one free frame sale so I bought my favorite gilded beaded frames.  I needed 4 (2 for each side of the bed) and only paid for 2!  I LOVE that!!
FRAME TRICK:
I love the frames I bough BUT they have 2 hooks on the back which I think makes it really hard to hang....so a little trick I use is to tie a string between the 2 hooks...then it is super easy to hang! See photo below....(this will save you so much time & headache)

Avery loves crowns and she loves cupcakes....so it was the perfect choice for her art!

I loved these when I found them...I tweaked the color and texture a little and they were all ready!

Now I wanted a fun background.  I used pink polkadot scrapbook paper for 2 of the prints and some of the burlap fabric I am using in her pillows.
Here is a picture of the burlap fabric....I LOVE it!  It is $14.99 a yard, but HERE is a coupon for 40% off.

Here are the art prints all put together...

And here is what they look like on the wall!

(info on lamps HERE)

This side of her room is pretty much complete with the exception of 2 Euro burlap pillows I want to make for the bed.  Time to start on the other side :)

Make your own art

When it comes to art I am super picky!  I like it to be unique and personal.
I love decorating with numbers, letters, dates scrapbook paper, etc.

I am in the process of working on my sons nursery and I wanted to do something different.  I didn't want to do typical boy themes like sports, dinosaurs, bugs, etc so I decided barns were the perfect fit!
I couldn't find anything that I liked.  Most of the art was either too "baby" looking or too "adult" looking.  I really wanted some sketches or architecture plans of barns, but was having trouble finding the right stuff.
So....time to make my own!

Here is what I started with:
These are just basic barn clip art images that you can find in google images.  They were not the look I was going for....too bright, too baby and just too wrong.

Here is the what they look like now that I transformed them. I will frame them and put them in Braden's nursery.

SO....how do you do this?  Let me teach you.

Do a google search and find any clip art image.  Copy the image and put it in Powerpoint.
Once you crop it and get the image the size you want click on the photo then go to the top tabs on Powerpoint and click on Format, Artistic Effects and then choose pencil grayscale.
You can choose all kinds of effects from chalk, water color, mosaic, etc.
Pencil grayscale and pencil sketch are my favorite!

Here is a side by side showing you the before and afters:

Here are some other examples.  I love barns and crowns so here are some crowns turned into sketches using the same technique.

I love ways to come up with your own custom look for super cheap!!!
Have fun creating your own art!

Project Nursery- take 2...the new house

We had Avery when we lived in our old house so I did her nursery there too.  I basically did the exact same thing in the new house, but just moved things around a bit.
You can find details on the nursery like paint color, where to purchase things etc on my first 2 blog posts that can be found here

I found this amazing vintage street sign from Ella Elaine and it is perfect for above Avery's bedroom door!!
Whenever we have baby #2 I am going to have to find a similar sign with their initial to hang above the other bedroom door.

View of room when you enter

left side side of picture with pink paint leads into the bathroom vanity area

I used a vintage locker basket for diapers and wipes

view into the vanity area of bathroom.  There is a door on the left that leads into the bath/toilet area and then leads into another vanity area just like this one attached to another bedroom.  It is a Jack & Jill set up.

Art above toilet.  It was hard to get pics in this room...it is small.  It is chocolate brown and pink

view of bathroom connecting both vanity areas.  It is chocolate brown, pink towels, white ruffle shower curtain and crown art.

Paint Color:
bathroom vanities: Martha Stewart Pink Lemonade
shower/toilet area: Behr Traditional

Shower Curtain is from Target and can be found HERE

I am starting to work on Avery's "Big Girl" room...will post pics as that starts to come along.

Project Nursery-Its done!!

Baby Avery will be here in 10 weeks so I have been busy trying to finish up the nursery!!  It is now done!
I love any excuse to get to decorate but this is the best excuse ever!  So ready for her to arrive and try out her new room!

This is an adorable basket with an A on it that a friend gave me

The frames have her initials but will eventually have black and white pictures of her

Found this amazing door at trade days!  It was the perfect color.
I had to have these wings!

Got these curtains at JCP and my mom added the fabric trim at the
bottom so they looked more custom.

The nursery is on HGTV's rate my space located HERE....
check it out!

Only one last thing I am waiting on to make the nursery complete....Avery!
